FACL BC has rapidly grown its presence in Vancouver's legal community since it was founded in 2011 and is now the primary professional organization supporting BC's growing body of Asian-Canadian lawyers, judges and law students.
We are pleased to announce that FACL BC's 6th Annual Gala will take place on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the spectacular Vancouver Convention Centre (West). Year after year, FACL BC hosts a sold-out, signature event, which has grown from 130 attendees in our inaugural year to 350 attendees in 2016.
This year's keynote speaker is Jim Chu.
Jim is senior vice president with the Aquilini Group. He is involved in agriculture and real estate operations, and general corporate functions. Prior to accepting his current private sector position, Jim was with the Vancouver Police Department for 36 years, starting as Constable in 1979.
He rose through the ranks and was Chief Constable from 2007 up until his retirement in 2015. He holds a BBA from Simon Fraser University and an MBA from the University of British Columbia. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Executive Institute.
Jim was elected president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and served from 2012 to 2014. He received an Honorary Doctorate from the Justice Institute of BC, an Outstanding Alumni award from SFU, and was invested into the Order of Merit of Police Services by the Governor General of Canada. He has served on the boards of Streetohome, the Justice Institute, and the Richmond Public Library (Chair 1994-1996). He currently serves as a Director of Translink and chairs the Human Resources and Governance Subcommittee.
