Legal Clinic |
FACL BC and Access Pro Bono Launch New Pan-Asian Legal Clinic The Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers BC (FACL BC) and Access Pro Bono Society of British Columbia (Access Pro Bono) are pleased to announce a new partnership to expand access to justice and culturally informed legal services for members of the pan-Asian community across British Columbia. Launching on October 26, 2026, the new phone-based, pro bono legal clinic will provide free summary legal advice to members of the pan-Asian community in British Columbia. The Clinic will assist with a range of legal matters, including family, immigration, criminal, and civil law issues, such as debt, employment, welfare, and housing.
The Clinic will strive to offer culturally informed legal services in English and a variety of Asian languages, subject to the availability and language expertise of volunteer lawyers. FACL BC and Access Pro Bono are working together to establish the Clinic, with FACL BC leading its development and Access Pro Bono supporting its operations through administrative and technical resources. |
Volunteer Lawyers Needed
FACL BC and Access Pro Bono invite lawyers across our communities to participate in this initiative by sharing their time and legal expertise to help members of the pan-Asian community navigate legal issues and better understand their rights and options. Lawyers with experience in family, immigration, criminal, and civil law are encouraged to volunteer. Lawyers who can provide legal services in an Asian language are particularly welcome, although multilingual ability is not a requirement. There is a role for every lawyer who wishes to contribute.
Volunteer lawyers will be eligible to claim one hour of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit for every hour of pro bono legal services provided through the Clinic. How to Get Involved Lawyers interested in volunteering can register through Access Pro Bono’s online volunteer registration process: Register as a Volunteer Lawyer
During registration, lawyers can indicate their areas of practice and the languages in which they are fluent. Once registration is complete, Access Pro Bono will follow up with further information about the Clinic, including volunteer procedures and upcoming clinic dates. Lawyers who are already registered with Access Pro Bono do not need to register again. Instead, they can contact SAP Program Manager Jimmy Yan at jyan@accessprobono.ca to coordinate their participation. Building a More Inclusive Legal Community FACL BC and Access Pro Bono are proud to embark on this partnership and look forward to working with volunteer lawyers to make legal information more accessible to members of the pan-Asian community across British Columbia. We invite lawyers across our communities to join us in making this initiative a success and helping build a stronger, more inclusive legal community in BC. |
