The event will be a dynamic Q&A session featuring internationally trained lawyers who have successfully completed their NCA or LLMCL, and are currently working in different law firms. The speakers will share valuable insights into their journey of transitioning into the legal practice in British Columbia.

Meet our Speakers 


Alex Mok (LLMCL) is a lawyer at Allen/McMillan Litigation Counsel. He grew up and attended law school in Hong Kong. He was admitted as a Hong Kong solicitor in 2014, and maintained a broad civil litigation practice since then. He came to Canada in 2022, and completed his LLM (Common Law) program at UBC recently. He was called to the BC bar earlier this year.             


Gurpreet Kang (NCA) is a passionate and dedicated family law lawyer at Highland Law. Born and raised in England, Gurpreet made the pivotal decision to relocate to Canada in 2013. The transition involved navigating the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) process to convert her UK law degree. In 2018, fueled by a passion for making a meaningful impact in Family Law, Gurpreet co-founded Highland Law, located in Langley, BC. Gurpreet understands the personal nature of Family Law matters and strives to provide clients with the support and legal guidance needed during challenging times. Beyond the courtroom, Gurpreet is committed to community initiatives and education.


Steven Mangat (NCA) is an associate at the law firm of Richards Buell Sutton LLP. He is a member of their Business, Real Estate and South Asian groups, primarily servicing clients in the areas of corporate, commercial, franchising, leasing, and real estate law. Born and raised in British Columbia, Steven completed his undergraduate studies locally at SFU's Beedie School of Business.  He attended law school overseas in Australia for his JD and subsequently completed the NCA process upon his return home after graduating, obtaining accreditation in 2017.  Prior to joining RBS in 2022, he articled and practiced at a boutique law firm in Surrey, B.C.


Rachel Wong (NCA) is an associate at Mogan Daniels Slager LLP. Rachel’s practice focuses primarily on private company mergers and acquisitions and private equity fund formation and transactions. Prior to relocating to Vancouver in 2020, Rachel began her legal career in Hong Kong, accumulating extensive experience in both the Hong Kong office of an international law firm and as an in-house Asia regional counsel of a large US-based company. Rachel obtained her LLB from the University of Warwick, England, and returned to Hong Kong to complete her postgraduate certificate in laws. Rachel was admitted to legal practice in 2016.
