Following our highly popular and sold out panel last year, Resiliency in a Tough Economy: What to Do When You're Not Hired Back or Let Go, drop by virtual office hours hosted by our President, Fiona Wong, for tips on what to do when you're not hired back, how to prepare for job applications, and how to start your legal career as an associate.

Fiona completed her articles in 2021 at a full-service national firm and was not hired back. She also experienced brief unemployment in 2023 as a junior associate after being let go, which inspired her to organize last year's FACL BC panel to discuss the same topics with others going through similar experiences.

While these experiences can be challenging to overcome and are often taboo as they are perceived as "failures" not openly shared with colleagues or on LinkedIn, these setbacks are temporary and it is still possible to enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding career afterward. More often than not, these decisions are made based on factors beyond your control, especially due to economic factors.

The informal session will allow attendees to ask questions about next steps after finding about hireback decisions, and how to move onto the next chapter of starting your career as a first-year associate. Drop in whenever convenient, and anonymously if you wish, though signing on at starting time is recommended. A Zoom link will be shared with registrants. Send questions in advance to president@faclbc.ca.
